Continuing Professional Development

Aimed at teachers of primary school children the Rural Enterprise twilight CPD events are held on weekday evenings between 4-6pm.

Teachers attending all courses will learn how to tie content back to the school curriculum and will be given a resource pack to support implementation of their learning.

Sowing the Seeds

This course will equip you with the skills you need to create and manage your school garden.

In the first session you will learn about  the resources required for a school garden,  the second is a practical course held in our own vegetable gardens.

During these sessions you will learn:

  • how to tie gardening into the school curriculum,
  • how to fit vegetable plots into small spaces and
  • how to ensure produce is ready to pick before the school holidays.

You will get a free resource pack to take back to school which also includes indoor activities and games and a pack of plants to get your garden started.

The course is delivered by Barbara Astbury and was originally created by Garden Organic, the national charity for growing and Coventry City Council Primary Science team.

This course is held on two weekday evenings from 4pm - 6pm. Please contact us for details.

Healthy Eating for Life

This course will enable you to teach children how to make the right choice about what to eat

During this course you will learn how to plan an hourly classroom session to run for six weeks covering:

  • Where our food comes from
  • How food gets from the farm to our shopping baskets
  • The main nutritional groups and what constitutes a well balanced diet
  • How a well balanced meal is prepared
You will get a free resource pack to take back to school which includes activities and games and a selection of easy to follow recipes.

Healthy Eating for Life will also show teachers ways to involve parents and carers through family learning sessions that can take place at school or at Green Acres Rural Enterprise Centre; alternatively families can be booked onto one of our Family Courses.

The course was designed by Heather Wilson, the centre manager at Rural Enterprises CIC. Heather has a lifetime of experience in the food and agricultural industries and has been working with schools for the past ten years.
It will be delivers by one of our centre staff and is held on two weekday evenings from 4pm to 6pm. Please contact the centre for first available dates.
