Family Learning

Rural Enterprises CIC is keen to promote family learning enabling them to look after themselves by growing their own food, cooking their own healthy meals and managing tight budgets.

Families can learn together at the centre or parents can come on their own and learn with others.

This is an after school course run on two evenings over two weeks with availability by arrangement.

During the course families will learn:

  • The main nutritional groups
  • What constitutes a well balanced diet
  • The link between good food and good health
  • How to construct a weekly meal plan
  • How to manage on a tight budget and
  • Where to shop to stay in budget
The family will be encouraged to prepare food together in our family kitchen and will take home the results of their work.

Each participant will take home recipes and meal and budgeting planning templates.

In addition to the opportunities to learn as a family we also offer a Leaving Home course to young adults who are planning to live independently for the first time.

For those who have never learned to budget, cook or manage basic household chores before this course offers a solid foundation.

It is run on two evenings over two weeks with availability by arrangement.
